Neil Clark: Fatigue’s Financial Costs

Neil Clark — Founder and CEO of IHF — explains that despite the general understanding of the negative — and at times devastating — human impacts of fatigue, it can be difficult to articulate its financial cost to businesses and organisations.

The human cost of fatigue — and fatigue-related incidents — is often all too easy to see.

Injuries, time off work, impacts to families and friends.

But what is often overlooked is the financial cost of fatigue and fatigue-related incidents.

Time off work, investigation time, operational losses, absenteeism and presenteeism. All of these things add up, and have a direct — or indirect — financial cost to organisations and businesses.

It is often quite difficult to get our hands on just how impactful these costs can be.

And it is for that reason that IHF have built the “What Are Your Potential Annual Workplace Fatigue Costs?” calculator.

This can be used to estimate the potential total annual financial costs related to fatigue at your organisation and — as a result — the potential financial savings of predictive and objective fatigue risk management.
