IHF Join “Sustainable Occupational Safety and Health Research Centre (SOSH-RC)” Initiative

Dr. Chizaram Nwankwo — a Senior Human Factors Consultant — is representing IHF as part of the University of East London (UEL) SOSH-RC initiative.

Led by Dr. Andrew Arewa, SOSH-RC is designed to bridge the gap between academic research and industry needs, offering practical and sustainable solutions to some of the most pressing safety and well-being challenges in workplaces around the world.

With a balanced membership model 40% from academia, 40% from industry and 20% from regulatory or government bodies the group aims to ensure research outputs are rigorous, relevant and ready for real-world application.

Commenting on his and IHF’s participation, Dr. Nwankwo stated:

“I am delighted to share that I have joined the SOSH-RC Board of Trustees at UEL. In parallel, my organisation IHF has also joined the SOSH-RC initiative, and we are now exploring exciting opportunities for research collaboration and industry partnership to advance sustainable occupational safety and health practice. SOSH-RC is a pioneering initiative designed to bridge the gap between academic research and industry application, fostering sustainable, evidence-based solutions to some of the most pressing health and safety challenges of our time. As both a human-factors professional and trustee, I am thrilled to contribute to shaping the centre’s strategic direction, championing research that strengthens the connection between people, systems and safety, and promoting collaboration that delivers meaningful impact for workers and organisations alike. I am grateful to my colleagues at UEL, IHF and the wider SOSH-RC team for this opportunity, and I look forward to the transformative work ahead.”
