Marine

Analysis of shipping disasters in recent years has highlighted the central importance of the ‘human element’ and the contribution of human factors in maritime incidents and accidents. The Costa Concordia, MV Sewol and Lamma IV disasters are very recent examples of the human in accident causation within the high-risk environment of Marine. Yet, the risks are not just confined to the Marine industry itself - the Oil & Gas Industry, of which IHF is a leading provider of Human Factors expertise, is heavily dependent on shipping for a variety of reasons.
IHF is accredited by the UK Maritime Coastguard Authority (MCA) to deliver HELM (Human Element Leadership Management) training to the Maritime industry. In addition, IHF's sister company, SALT Services provides STCW and other Marine related training to organisations and individuals onsite and from our headquarters in Edinburgh.

Case Studies
Forth Pilots requested IHF's assistance in observing and improve the two-pilot operations of VLCCs (Very Large Crude Carriers) docking at Hound Point Marine Terminal. IHF conducted live operational and simulator based Human Factors assessment of Two-Pilot Operations which has led to a number of recommendations being implemented with a measurable increase in operational safety and performance.
