The Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF) has reaccredited the “An Introduction to Safety Critical Task Analysis (SCTA)” training course provided by Integrated Human Factors (IHF).
Understanding the SCTA method can support organisations in delivering an effective SCTA program that includes conducting upfront SCTA planning and actively supporting SCTA studies. This IHF training course aims to improve in-house competence to support SCTA studies, and organisations can demonstrate themselves to be an intelligent customer when it comes to human factors service provision.
This IHF training course also addresses 14 areas of the CIEHF Professional Competency Checklist (PCC), with key learning outcomes including the following:
- Human Factors: Have an awareness of human factors as a discipline.
- SCTA: Understand the key steps to planning and delivering an effective SCTA program as defined in industry best practice from the Energy Institute (EI) and Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
- Performance Influencing Factors (PIFs): Understand a range of PIFs and how they influence error likelihood, with consideration made to individual (physical and psychological), job/environmental and organisational factors.
- Human Error: Understand human error and common error types in an operational context and the need to optimise the working environment to reduce error risk.
- Regulatory Expectations: Understand how human factors integration meets regulatory expectations.
For assessment, delegates participate in group exercises to contextualise learning, including active discussion on human error and PIFs. Delegates conduct exercises for task screening, task analysis, Human Error Analysis (HEA) and considering PIFs. During all exercises, reflective discussions are held, questions are asked by the IHF training course tutor to gauge understanding and guidance is provided — as required — to support learning transfer.
